Program Philosophy:
At VanArts, our training combines the elements of traditional artistic principles with the latest technology. The animation, gaming and visual effects industries have always been a blend of ART and TECHNOLOGY. It takes more than just knowing which button to push.

VanArts receives regular visits and input from industry leaders from Pixar, Disney, Electronic Arts, Weta Digital and others in order to prepare you for the opportunities that await you in real productions. To break into this industry, you need a professional demo reel, a solid work ethic, and most importantly, a network of people who will help you, recommend you and strengthen you. This is what we are dedicated to at VanArts.

Program Description:
VanArts is located in Vancouver, Canada and is a fully accredited post-secondary school offering certificate and diploma programs in 2D/3D character animation, game art, visual effects, acting, web development and digital photography. The school has a distinctive learning environment with one-on-one teaching and small class sizes.

Developed by Wayne Gilbert, our Head of Animation, the VanArts Character Animation Program is based on the same methodology Wayne developed for Disney Canada, Industrial Light & Magic and Animation Mentor. You will work alongside your instructors in a dynamic studio setting in which learning replicates industry experience. Students and instructors become an intimate team of creative minds working side-by-side in innovative collaborations.

Our program respects the intense 12-month study time frame by focusing on animating and character performance. During that time we will challenge you to push the limits of your creativity. Your first goal is to produce a high quality demo reel showcasing your character animation skills, worthy of presenting to the major animation studios of Canada, the USA and around the world. This demo reel becomes the passport to your first job in the industry. Your creativity and commitment to the craft will guarantee your success.

The programís singular focus is training future Character Animators. Our 2D and 3D students share lectures, assignments & reviews, and work closely together as a team. Extra life drawing is provided for 2D animators, and Maya is taught to support the 3D stream. If you share our vision and are dedicated to your craft, then we look forward to welcoming you to VanArts.

Game Art & Design has its focus in concept art, modeling, rigging, texturing and lighting characters & environments for games. Visual Effects trains students in compositing, match-moving, rotoscoping, color correction, and digital matte painting for film, TV, commercials or games. Our Digital Photography program is the first of its kind in North America to emphasize digital techniques over darkrooms. Acting students learn techniques for film & television as well as stage. Web Development gives today\'s modern skills in design, business and client relationships to our students.

In addition to our full-time career training programs, VanArts offers part-time courses in 2D Animation, Maya, Basic Drawing, Comic Book Production, Stop-Motion Animation, Photography and Acting. One-month intensives for Animation & 3D Modeling are also held in the summer months. These courses are designed to give students an introduction to our programs and help them decide if these careers are right for them.
