Entrance Requirements:
Applicant interviews/auditions for places on 2004 courses will be held between 15th September and 11th December 2003. We strongly recommend that you get your application to us as soon as possible.

Selections for all courses will be by interview (or audition for On Screen Acting applicants).

Interviews for Film & TV, New Media and Animation courses for international applicants are conducted by telephone conference call with a panel of tutors. We are looking for a natural drawing ability in our Animation Production applicants. In addition to all other submissions, applicants must provide a small (no larger than A4) sketchbook of life sketches taken from their everyday observations when submitting their application and domestic students may also be required to participate in a life drawing session as part of the interview process.

Domestic students should be 17 years or older, international students should be 20 years or older. A good command of English is required. International students whose home country does not have English as a first language will need to produce a verified copy of Band 7 IELTS (general level) if they intend to specialise in Directing on the Film & TV production course due to the scriptwriting element, or Band 6 IELTS (general level) for all other courses. If you are an international student (ie you cannot show a NZ residency stamp in your passport at the time of application), but are in New Zealand at this time, you may follow the application process as for domestic students, however, please note that your course fees will be charged at international student rates.

Your application can only be processed when the school receives all the requested information, documents and application fee (all courses: NZ$40 Domestic students, NZ$100 International students).

International students: from 30th October 2003 are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand therefore if you receive medical treatment during your time in NZ, you will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. It is essential that you have insurance that will cover the cost of medical treatment for the duration of your stay and also travel insurance to and from New Zealand.

As an international student it is particularly important that you provide us with an email address if you have one.

Program Philosophy:
The NZQA approved 2 year Full-Time Diploma in Animation Production Course is run in close association with the animation industry. This is a course designed from the ground up for vocational outcomes. Animators need more than an understanding of techniques, they need to have extensive experience in the techniques of the animation process.
Most animation work in New Zealand is commissioned by international clients. The clients provide scripts, models sheets etc, and require the animators to animate. Consequently, animation studios require people who can clean, in-between, keyframe, background, composite, shoot etc., and these people need to be highly skilled and versatile but more importantly, experienced. There is no room for on the job learning. Without this experience the job market is bleak for animators, no matter how talented.
The South Seas Animation course addresses this exact need. It is the course for people who want to build a career in animation, both in New Zealand and overseas.

Program Description:
South Seas Film and Television School is a New Zealand Qualifications Authority registered Private Training Establishment that specialises in providing Film, Video, Television, New Media and Animation industry related training courses. These practical courses all use professional equipment, facilities and industry-experienced tutors. All our full time courses have NZQA and Ministry of Education approval so that NZ students receive EFTS fee subsidies and student loans eligibility. We welcome applications from international students.

Faculty Description:
The course was launched on 8th September 2003 at our New North Road site in Eden Terrace, Auckland. South Seas is running its course in conjunction with ANIM-8, one of New Zealand's top animation companies who have recently been awarded a contract by Walt Disney. Accordingly, there are full animation production studio facilities available for students' use.
